A shake-to-mix serum for stubborn dark patches

A two-layer serum you shake before each use. The water layer has 4% tranexamic acid, 5% niacinamide and vitamin B12, and the oil layer has 4-butylresorcinol, licorice oil and sea buckthorn oil. It is for dark patches and spots that hang around, and it is fragrance-free.

The brand says not on the same day as retinol, vitamin C or AHA/BHA. Alternate days instead.; Why do I need to shake it?
